This candle is unlike any other; it is, by far, my all-time favorite. I'd describe the scent as....well, incredibly odd! It truly makes you feel like you are in a haunted castle -- just close your eyes, and imagine the dusty bookshelves and decaying walls. Ah, fantastic! I hope that one day, Spireside comes to horror conventions like Monsterpalooza, Son of Monsterpalooza, and CreepIE Con! I would give them all the business. HIGHLY recommend!

I absolutely love this scent but I have to be honest, I didn’t like this at first. The description says “Musty Carpets, Dusty Furnishings, Graveyard Grasses” and when I first opened it, it smelled like cleaning supplies to me. I was so confused. I thought it was gonna be my creepy, sultry, Halloween scent. Then I went back and read the description again “Ghostly Castle is a fresh, clean scent…” I must’ve missed that part. I don’t usually like clean scents. Plus, how can a scent be both “clean” and “musty”/“dusty”? I figured I would give it a try anyways so I put it in my wax burner and waited. OMG. Magic! I can’t explain how amazing it smells! It really does smell like an old castle somehow. I was watching “The Worst Witch” while enjoying the scent and the fall leaves outside and it was perfection.

If you let your imagination run with the scent, it definitely does give you an old castle/ musty graveyard vibe. It has a distinct ability to calm me like no other candle. I have never been more happy with a candle in my life. I am reordering another Ghostly Castle, and I even think I will try Forbidden Temple as well!

What a magnifi-scent candle. It really does capture the spooky atmosphere. You are transported to a haunted castle in the late 1800s, complete with winding staircases and yellowing fabric wallpaper. Yet, it is also fresh and clean (graveyard grass). You can burn this year-round without it feeling out of place. I don't know how they do it. Must be magic.

When I saw these candles advertised, I KNEW I had a new candle company obsession. These fragrant notes are BIZARRE lol you really don’t know what to expect. And when you read “musty furniture and graveyard” you know they mean something else that smells better... but strangely it all fits. First whiff is musky, incense-y, smokey, warm, comforting. The more I burn it though I really do smell musty furniture, and earthy notes. It’s so cool. It smells like my grandmas house, which was always a whimsical booksy place. Being the Halloween loving fanatic I am, I was looking for some Fall scented candles that could help me up the ambiance in these dark and secluded times. Never being a big candle person, I decided to check out the webstore after seeing an ad, and boy am I glad I did. I ordered this Ghostly Castle and the Headless Horseman's Ride - the Horseman's Ride was first in my cart, but I wanted another one, just to sample several scents. I was intrigued by the name "Ghostly Castle" but also hesitant - what does dusty furnishings and musty carpets smell like? Is this a joke candle I would buy for a friend as a prank and laugh as they stunk up their house? However the rave reviews swayed me, and I purchased this one as well. My order was shipped promptly and arrived much quicker than I expected - in plenty of time for the Holiday season. And wow was I blown away. The amount of COZY this candle radiates from its scent is wonderful. If anyone ever describes a Ghostly Castle as NOT cozy and welcoming, I will refer them straight away to this candle to prove them wrong. Even my wife, who was shocked that I would spend good money on some scented candles, quickly dropped her protests as soon as she walked into my office one morning while I had this candle lit. Love the subtlety and complexity of this scent. You can't describe it as green, or floral, or spicy, or any of the typical descriptors- although you do get some damp green-ness within the musty notes. It kind of smells like the beginning of a storm on what was previously a hot and dusty day. My #1 favorite, Enchanted Library, goes great with Ghostly Castle. I have also tried it with Headless Horseman's Ride, which is also good but it does get a little overwhelmed by the strength of that one.

I found this to be one of the softer, less fragranced of the candles I've tried. The scent is absolutely lovely and in no way do I pick up the musty smell others have. I just have a hard time smelling it once it's burning because I have sinus issues. But if you're a fan of the description and notes of the candle and like a more subtle scent or have a sensitive nose then I'd say you MUST try this candle!!

Of the four samples I received, this one is the most intriguing! As others have reviewed and written, it's a difficult scent to define because it sends mixed messages of inspiration. It's very clean, but underneath, there is a hint of mystery and gentle, gentle spice. Like the other candles, it perfumes the entire room. :) My favorite candle so far is Headless Horseman's Ride, but Ghostly Castle is my second favorite because of its understated complexity.

Such a complex and interesting scent, in such a good way! It smells damp and cold, but at the same time it is still somehow warm and inviting. There is a hint of grassiness in the background. It smells like damp stone in a graveyard but again, somehow it is still cozy. It is their most complex scent in my opinion. I didn't think I would like this one until I lit it. I was on the fence when I ordered it in a sample pack, but it sounded too intriguing to pass up. Well, I am glad I picked this one, because I ended up liking it so much that I ordered the full size. This would make a great scent for the Halloween season, but I am a dark lady, so I will be lighting it all the time :P

I’ve bought a ton of candles over the years attempting to relive my holiday related happiness through the year and most fail. Either they smell too sweet or the scent fades too quickly when you aren’t hovering directly over the candle. I ordered several candles that I thought might cheer me up by reminding me of Fall and Halloween while I’m stuck in the house under Coronavirus quarantine. This was the first candle we lit out of our order and immediately after removing the lid I said to myself, “Damn, this is the best smelling candle I’ve ever bought’. My wife came out of the bedroom a little late (quarantine perk), and as she walked down the hall asked, “What is that delicious smell?” The scent REALLY does smell like the description and the scent is somehow not overpowering but still very present, even in large rooms. This scent is wonderful! If you close your eyes and breathe in through your nose, it smells sort or damp/cold but yet somehow still very warm and inviting. There’s a hint of grassiness underneath. It would make an awesome autumn scent. I didn’t pick up on the “dusty/musty/old” smell that some others were saying, which is good because that was what worries me when i ordered it. So i was afraid i wouldn’t like it but ordered it anyways because of how intriguing it sounded. Andddd i really really like it! I got this scent as a sample and wasn’t sure I was going to like it when I smelled it. I remember reading other reviews saying something similar but then when they lit the candle, they liked it. When I lit the candle, I was pleasantly surprised because it wasn’t overpowering at all. It’s not a heavy scent when lit. I can smell it but it doesn’t overpower the room. At first in the jar I was iffy about the scent. Once I lit it it It became an instant favorite. It smells sweeter than I expected with a hint of musk. Once this candle is done I'm going to order another one because this is now my favorite candle. Ever.

It's a bit sweeter smelling than I originally expected, but I love it all the same! Musky and sort of clean smelling. Easily a favorite of mine and my friends. All Spireside candles I've had have been a perfect strength — they can fill a room but aren't overpowering. Definitely recommend!

It’s difficult to describe how a scent can be creepy, but this one is. It evokes a mood of dampness, coziness, creepiness. My partner and I recently bought a new house, and it’s mostly horror themed. This candle burns in my study, and compliments the ambiance beautifully. Creates the most lovely, dark atmosphere for focus and work. I’m sure I will be getting this one again, and again, and again.

This is the perfect candle for scary movie nights and cold foggy days. The smell floats through the room even without lighting the candle! My only critique is that I wish the “graveyard grasses” scent was a bit stronger to counter the mustiness with some freshness. Nevertheless, I definitely feel transported to an eerie, abandoned castle whenever I use this candle! I will be ordering again!

This is the best fragrance ever! I got my first one for Halloween last year, but could not wait until the upcoming Halloween, so I ordered more and have been using mine all year. The scent is different and alluring - not fruity or too sweet. There is a tinge of mustiness, like an old forgotten basement but in a nice way, and a grassy presence, and perhaps...a clay kind of smell. It all sums up to a delicious ambiance that reminds me of a Cape Cod cottage, or any dank place in New England. But it's delicious. I have many fragrances, but this is, by far, my favorite!
